A fellow of the Royal Horticultural Society has doubts as to whether a tomato is a vegetable or a fruit. It is generally considered a matter of opinion, but he says that it in' definitely a fruit becauso it comes from the flower of tho tomato plant. Everything which fertilises from the flower of a plant is classified as fruit. Thus cucumbers and marrows are both, botanically, fruits. Despite this the Royal Horticultural Society's book says that a tomato is both fruit and vegetable, and in shows tomatoes are always exhibited among vegetables.
