Captain Nelson, who has been ashore on sick leave, has resumed command of tho Himitangi. Mr. W. 13. Fuller, who retired from (he service of Messrs. Levin and Company last month' was presented with a cheque by Captain p' A. Petcrsen yesterday, on behalf of the Shipowners' Federation, of which Mr. Fuller was tho first president when it was started at Wellington 22 years ago. On-her arrival) at San Francisco from Wellington the Union Company's mall steamer Tahiti was placed in dry dock, and her departure on the return voyage to Sydney, via ports has been delayed until Friday. According to her usual schedule the • Tahiti should now arrive at Wellington on tho 22nd October, but it is possible that she will make up some of the lost time by fast steaming. ISLANDS SERVICES. RUAPEHU LEAVES PANAMA. i p?h4 Kuapehu, en routo from Southampton, left Panama on Sunday for Wellington, where sne is due on the 27th October. WAINUI'S RESTING PLACE. The hull of the Union Company's former steamer Wainul has been sold to Mr B Shakespeare, who will use the vessel for a breakwater at Whangaparaoa. Built at Dumbarton in 1886 the Wainul afterwards had a sea service of 41 years in the coastal trade under the Union Company's flag. Her last ,18 months of service were In tho Gisborne-Napier-Auckland trade. She was withdrawn from commission at the beginning of June, 1927, and was replaced by the Anchor Line steamer Waimea. Last, June the Wainul was sold to shipbreakers, and since then she has been dismantled. As soon as all the machinery and flttings have been landed the shell of the vessel will be towed to its last restingplace, as was done with the company's larger steamers Monowai.
