LOSS ON A FARM
of creditors in the estate ■ot J6hn William Perkins, land salesDl aih. Wellmgton, was held at the office or the Official Assignee to-day. The statement of accounts showed:— Amount owing to . unsecured creditors 3i4J.d 11s, and the assets were returned as ml. The amount of £413 waa set down as owing to Sydney John Sievers, Levin, stock agent. «, ? !" S 3Wora statement bankrupt said tnat he returned to New Zealand from, a trip to England in 1920. He parchased a farm at Otaki and farmed the property until June, 1922, when owing to the slump and a severe nervous Breakdown he was obliged to walk oS the farm'when'the second mortgagee was on the point of exercising his power of sale. He had sunk and 'lost ?Ln east &2000 in the place. In 1929 his wife obtained a land agent s licence, and bankrupt had since been working as a land salesman in the business. .-.- ;
In reply to questions, Perkins said that ho told Sievers that ho had money coming to him from his father's estate, tie got £500 from the estate, which money was paia to other creditors, including an amount owing to a creditor who had an interest in the farm. He was not in a position to make any offer at present/ but might be able to do so in tho eourso of six weeks. The meeting was adjourned sine dio with the view of seeing if a satisfactory offer' could be made.
