Dancing, music, and dressing are all ot tho very best in "The Desert Song," the musical comedy with the Moroccan bagkground at present" being staged■■; before delichted audiences at the Grand Opera House.. Tbo hero Is one called the . Red ' Shadow, a mysterious figure whom Mr.. Lance Fairfax infect* with a full share "of romance. As Margot Bonvalet, the French girl who aches for adventure and takes It when it offers, Romola Uanscn is a captivating heroine, and ' she and Mr. Fairfax sing some outstanding songs together, notably the number from which tho production takes its name. Mr. Herbert Mundin and Miss Renee Murphy are * a pair of most diverting comedians, who draw laughter with what might bo called spontaneras regularity. Miss Sonya Rosbva dances wi'.u sinuous grace and •abandon, and also puts the necessary intensity Into her acting. Mr. Herbert Browne's tenor voice Is heard to full advantage In bis part as Sid El Kar.'the Red Shadow's lieutenant, and special mention Must bo made of the chorus singing and • ballet work, which are two of the big features of the performance.
