HUTT VALLEY AND OLYMPIC

Tho Hutt Valley aud Olympic Harrier Clubs held their club championships at Hutt Park on Saturday afternoon over a distance of 6% miles. The weather conditions left little to be desired, and the course was in excellent condition.

The course, which was not considered to be easy, led from the Hutt Park Grandstand, past the caretaker's cottage at the eust end of the Park, across a paddock, and along the new Day's Bay road to the beach, via the Maori Cemetery. A detour round the. new oil depot carried the trail to the corner of the Day's Bay and Gracefield roads and thence along Grac-eficld road and across the fields to the small railway bndge over the Waiwetu Stream, and along the railway workshops fence to the north end of, the Park. The runners then entered the racecourse, which they circled twice and finished in front of the stands. The Hutt Valley Club's race resulted:— C. M'Carthy (42min) 1 V. Smith (42min Osec) 2 D. Matson (42min oSsec) 3 R. Dudley (44mm) i E. Lewis (44min 57sec) 5

A sealed handicap held in connection with the races resulted:—D. Matson (scr) 1, R. Dudley (30sec) 2, G. Lewis (70sec) 3. C. M'Carthy and V. Smith secured fastest times in the sealed handicap, but as they were the prize winners, the places for the handicap races went to the next men in order. :

The following were the officials:—Starter, Mr. B. Lippett; timekeepers, Messrs. Price and Goddard; judges, Messrs. Townsend, Doone, Hadley, and Craig. The ladies' section of the Hutt Valley Harriers' Club also held their champipnship race round the park. Miss E. Rowe ran a fine race, and won fairly easily from Mrs. V. Smith. The detailed results were: Miss E. Rowe (20min 25s<ec) 1Mrs. V. Smith (21min 23sec), 2; Miss M. Hodgkinson .(21min 45sec), 3; Miss G Pileher (22min 4asec); 4. Mrs. Smith won the sealed,, handicap. ■ ' ' After the run afternoon tea was- served in the pavilion. Mr. B. Lippett, donor of the trophy, presented the championship cup to C. M'Carthy, and Mrs. V. Smith's Cup to Miss E. Rowe. The Olympic Club used the same trail as was covered by the Hutt Valley Club. Twenty-four runners started, and P. Wilson led from the start, to win by about 250 yards from C. Campbell, with'A. Carter a.similar distance back, third. The results were:— P. Wilson (39min 35sec) 1 C. Campbell (40min 27sec) 2 A Carter (41min) ...; 3 C. Bell (llinin 46sec) 4 D. Watt (44m'in 29sec), 5; W. Sceats (44min 35sec), 6. The sealed haudicap race resulted:—J. Blanchfield (6min lOsec), 1; P.
