PRINCE HUMPHREY CASE

KESULT-OF A.J.G. INVESTI-

GATION

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.

. SYDNEY, 16th July. . An investigation by Mr. C. Yuille, registrar of racehorses, into the identity of Prince Humphrey, has cstablshed the fact that he is a bay gelding, threo years, byDuke Humphrey (imp.)— Princess Hazel (imp.), branded with a B under an inverted V on the near shoulder, and 5 over 13G, now almost invisible, on the near thigh. He is a bay with black points. The other horse whose brands were confused with Cragsman, which Mr. Yuille finds is a bay gelding, three years, by Duke Humphrey (imp.)— Shepherd Princess, branded with a B under an inverted V on the near shoulder, and 5 over 144 on Ihe near thigh, with a large star, streak, and blaze over the left nostril. Both fore pasterns are broken white, and both hind pasterns broken white.

Mr. Yuille adds that the evidence indicates that the confusion has arisen over the names of tho respective dams rather than that the horses had been confused by any similarity of appearance. The reason may have been because the full brands of the two horses were omitted from the catalogue of the Woodlands dispersal sale. Mr. Yuille remarks that had the secretary of the New Zealand Racing Conference checked the applications for registration of the two horses, or had each applicant checked his own application for registration at the time with the registrar's cer tificates, the error would then have been apparent.

The A.J.C. Committee to-day approved of the registrar's report. It was decided to call upon Mr. Macindoe, owner of Prince Humphrey, to register Prince Humphrey and amend his nomination of that horse for the Epsom, Metropolitan, and Warwick Farm spring handicaps, paying 20s fine in each case, otherwise the entries will be declared invalid, together with the costs of the inquiry into the horse's identity. The A.J.C. Committee also held that Ihe New Zealand horse Star God is ineligible to take part in the Epsom, Metropolitan, and Warwick Farm Spring Handicap. The rules provide that a horse outside the Commonwealth can be entered without prior registration, but as Star God happened tobe m Sydney when nominated, the horse should have been registered beforehand.
