RAISED SEA FLOOR

INSPECTION MADE

GBEAT LAND MOVEMENTS

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

WESTPOET, 15th July. Mr. C. IV Sehadick, county engineer, who has been inspecting tho earthquake damage in the Kcrnmeii district, returned to Westport on Friday evening after walking along the sen coast from Karamea to Mokihinui Eiver.

He reports great land movements between tho Little Wanganui and Mokihinui Rivers. In some cases the movements aro over a mile long, and extend back a mile inland. Prom a height of 1300 feet he made a careful inspection of the raised sea floor in this locality. This movement extends for about three-quarters of a mile in length, is 15 chains wide, and of an average height of 80 feet. Mr. Schadick states that this section of the sea coast is probably on the Kongahu fault line, and tho great movement of marl cliffs extending from a mile inland has displaced the foreshore in a forward and upward movement along the faeture line.
