AMERICAN IMPRESSIONS

AUCKLAND, This Day. A passenger service by dirigible from the United States to Honolulu is expected to be an accomplished fact in the near future, saifc Mr. A. C. Hammond, of Christchnrcih, who returned to New Zealand by the Niagara this morning after a visit to the United States and Canada. Mr. Hammond, who has a number of photographs of small lighter-than-air machines, built to accommodate a number of passengers, said he had made a flight. He spoke of tho comfort of trarvel by these airships. One company was going in exclusively for making commercial dirigibles, and ho considered that success was assured.
Referring to commerce, he said there had been a great deal too much speculation on the Stock Exchange in the States, and those bast able to judge were predicting a drop this year in" tho price of shares. Banks were doing everything possible to stop the stock gambling, and rates ooi overdrafts had gone up with this end in view. Generally speaking, ho said P there was prosperity in tho United States and also in Canada.
