lhe eye'-me which has dominated the metcoroiOK •• situation during the past few days is stii, centred near Farewell Spit. Cold, unsettled weather lias continued to prevail with general rain. Many heavy falls have occurred, and there has been much snow on the ranges of the South Island. Strong southerly winds have ruled in the South Island, but a north-east gale was reported at Akaroa Heads this morning, while In the North Island winds have been northerly or westerly.

Winds—Moderate north to wost winds over the North Island, backing gradually to southwest and becoming strong; elsewhere freshenins south-easterly winds.
Barometer—Rising slowly. Seas—Moderato north of Castlepoint; otherwise rather rough to rough. Tides—Good generally.
Warning signals for southerly gales are exhibitod at Capo Campbell, Stephen's Island, and the Nuggets.
Weather—Mainly fair on tho west coast of the South Island; elsewhere still unsettled with intermittent rain, but improving gradually from the north and west. Cool temperatures, with some snow on parts of the high country in tho South Island.
