RUGBY, Ist July. Tho Spanish Ambassador in London, the Marquis de Merry del Val, to-day called on the Foreign Secretary, Mr Arthur Henderson, to express officially tho thanks of the Spanish Government for the assistance rendered by the British aircraft carrier, H.M.S. Eagle, to Major Franco and the other Spanish airmen rescued near the Azores.

According to the Press, the pilot and observer in a Bison flight reconnaissance machine had scoured the Beaa for a wide

area until tho supply of fuel was nearly exhausted. They were returning to the Eagle when a floating object was sighted. The visibility was poor, but on flying down to Xu S? 6C o the En Slish airmen could see their Spanish colleagues waving to them. The Eagle was immediately intormed, and raced to the spot and, after picking up the aeroplane and crew, was able to report all safe.
