VISIT OF THE EMDEN
BRILLIANT RECEPTION
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, 28th June. A private reception, arranged by a corpmittee of citizens in honour of the officers and cadets of the German cruiser Emden, was held at Scots' Hall to-night. There was a brilliant gathering, and the proceedings were very enthusiastic. ' Speeches of welcome were made byMr. E. Langguth, chairman of the committee, and Sir George Fowlds. ; Captain yon Arnaul, Commander of the Emden, replied expressing keen appreciation of the hospitality extended in Auckland., He said the Emden had been sent out as a dove of peace, and 1 since it had rounded North Head it had met with a spirit of friendship. Hakas and poi dances were given by a Maori party, and a band from thi' Emden played music for the dances.
