GERMANY AND TREATY

BITTERLY DISAPPOINTED

MANIFESTO TO NATION

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Australian Press Association.. BEELIN, 27th Juno. President yon Hindenburg and members of tie Cabinet signed the following manifesto to the German nation on the occasion of the tenth anniversary ■of the Versailles Treaty: "To-day is a day of mourning. Ten years have passed since the German negotiators were compelled to sign a documont bitterly disappointing to all the friends of justice and genuine peace. The

treaty weighed heavily on all sections of the nation, upon the intellectual and economic life, and upon the labours of the workmen and of the peasant. Intense work and whole-hearted unity have been necessary to prevent the effects of the treaty from threatening the existence of the Fatherland. Ger many signed the treaty without ac knowledging war guilt, and we repud iate the charge that Germany was sole ly responsible for the war, in the firm trust that a true peace, based upon the unanimous conviction of free and equal nations, will prevail in future."
