MAGISTRATE'S COURT
This morning's sitting of the Magistrate's Court was presided over by "Air E Page, S.M. ' ' A first offender for drunkenness, who had spent the night in the cells, was convicted and discharged. For her third statutory offence of drunkenness, Kitty Stewart, aged 34, was fined £1, in default three days' imprisonment. With a total of 26 previous convictions, Josephine Anna Mouthy, aged 41, admitted her sixth statutory offence of drunkenness and the second breach of her prohibition order. Mrs. Glover, of the Salvation Army, said that it was a problem to know what to do with the accused. She would take her and place her in a home, but from past eSperience she knew that Monthy would not. remain there. "Gaol seems to be the only place for her," said the Magistrate. On the charge of drunkenness Monthy was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, and on the other charge she was convicted and discharged. Pleading guilty yesterday to three charges of' theft, Edmund Kay, alias Edward Kay, a labourer, aged 34, was to-day sentenced to one month's imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to be concurrent. The Magistrate said that Kay had been previously convicted of theft and admitted to probation. He had not, however, proved very satisfactory, and had been convicted for committing a breach of his license. He was now up on three charges of shoplifting. "I was drunk aiid don't remember much about it," said Robert- George Sadd, a hairdresser, aged 29, when he was charged with having assaulted Ernest Randall and breaking two bottles of beet, vo'.aed at 3s. Sub-Inspector Lander said the defendant was in a hotel and for some fancied insult he threw a beer mug at the .barman. It missed the barman, but struck two bottles of beer and broke them. Sadd then left the hotel, but the police were informed, and he was arrested. He had | a list of previous convictions. He was employed on relief works in the suburbs. On the charge of mischief Sadd was fined £2 and costs and was ordered to mako good the damage, in default fourteen days' imprisonment, and on the other charge he was convicted and discharged.
