Twelve men were entombed in the Jumbunna mine in Gippsland as the result of a fall of earth yesterday afternoon. They were released at midnight after desperate work by rescue parties.. Air was pumped into the mine, and the men stated that had this riot been done they would have suffocated. The imprisoned men were heardl tryiirg to pick their way to safety with picks and shovels: When liberated some were in an extremely weak condition; On 31st June three Italians; overcome by foul gas in this mine, died.
