WELLINGTON CLUB

The annual meeting of the Wellington Bowling Club was held last evening—Mr. A. Lulhain (president) in the chair. There was a large attendance of members. Discussing the report ana balancesheet which have been printed, Mr. I halek explained the position of the Moult bequest, and trusted that a satisfactory; arrangement would soon be come to with the trustees. It was pleasing to be able to say that although the club started "the year with £I^2 to the bad, it had finished up with- a credit balance of ,£450. ' In reply to a question asked by Mr. Tanner, Mr. Salek. said that the sum of £55 appearing on the balance-sheet as deposit and interest" was the result Of an original gift of £10 by the late Mr. 0. D. Barraud. The speaker gave an interesting explanation of a number of items on the balance-sheet, and added that the club's affairs in this respect were in a satisfactory nosition. . In answer to a question by "Archdea-" con Innes-Jones, Mr. Salek saia the amount set down as "unpaid subscriptions" had been considerably reduced. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. There were no contests for the positions of officers. The officers elected were:—President, Mr. E. J. Hill: vicepresident, Mr. W. H. Bennett: lion treasurer, Mr. I. Salek; hon. secretary, Mr. U Bary; directors, Messrs. W. Berry K. JYI. Roberts, J. Fairway, E. M'Kenzie, and A. Simpson; hon. auditor, Mr; &. Liddle. ■ . Mr. Lulham, in vacating the position of president, heartily thanked members for the loyal manner in which they had supported the officers and worked in the best interests of the ■?\l a? d ' in the election or. Mr. i,. J. Hill as his successor, Mr Lulham bespoke for Mr. Hill and the incoming officers hearty support. A , past president's badge, presented by' Mr. H. G. Mayer; was then handed to the retiring president. Mr. E. J. Hill thanked-members for his election as president, and said he was proud to occupy such an honourable position. He paid a tribute to the splendid work done by the founder of the club, Dr. Macgregor, and to others who had subsequently taken " a prominent part in the affairs of the club. Mr. Hill said he would do his utmost in the interests of the club. On the motion of the president, a donation of ten guineas was made to the earthquake relief fund. Mr. W. H. Bennett, in accepting the oihee of vice-president, spoke highly of the social value of sport; he had always held that a man was a "better citizen for joining up with his fellows in the social side of life. Mr. C. Bary for re-election as hon secretary, and Mr. I. Salek, for re-elec-tion as hon treasurer, also returned thanks. • Messrs. J. O'Donnell and W. A. Parton were re-elected members of the match committee. Mr. C. Bary moved: "That for all rink and pairs matches for club trophies the match committee is recommended to classify players and arrange teams-as.in day tournaments held during the season." His object, he said, was to promote more interest on the part of inexperienced players in club matches, thus improving the standard of play. Mr. Tanner said he took it that the object of the mover was this: that all members should have the opportunity of publicly getting their names on the board as being willing-to play for the honour of the club. Mr. Bary: "To widen the play." Mr. Tanner said in that case he heartily supported the motion. Mr. A. AV'ylio opposed the motion, and expressed the opinion that if it wore adopted it would spoil the friendly competition members had amongst themselves? _ The president suggested the institution, of a ' rink for-th'e junior pennants.

As far as younger players were con- j cerned, if the club could only get one or two rinks in the junior pennants it would help to bring the younger bowlers on. . The motion was qarried. A resolution was carried recommending the directors to inaugurate at intervals . during the winter months an afternoon "korero," the first of the series to take place on 4th July.
