DE LUXE THEATRE.
Enough excitement to last a lifetime, it is reported, is packed into a few reels of fllm in "The Whip," based on the famous stage melodrama, which will commence screening at the De Luxe Theatre to-night. For melodrama with deep-eyed villains, beautiful heroines, noble heroes, and all the other familiar components of melodrama of this type, "The Whip" can. scarcely be surpassed. It has train wrecks, a hero with amnesia, a motor-car smash, numerous falls from horses both unintentional and otherwise; enough plots to start twenty South American revolutions and divers I other accompanying highlights. It has, more:over, a cast of excellently chosen and directed players, a richness of setting and 'costuming found in few productions, and a smoothness of dramatic technique which makes it all seem highly plausible. To Dorothy MackaiU goes first honours for her portrayal of the heroine, Lady, Diana. Lowell Sherman, sleek and suave and unscrupulous villain, contributes a subtle performance, and Ralph Forbes is a satisfactory hero. Never has Anna Q. Nllsson looked more beautiful or striking than in her role of "Madame d'Aquila," 'a woman ' of' the world who lends a hand to Mr. Sherman's innumerable connivlngs. Good supports and the usual excellent music are also promised.
