HOSPITAL SUPPLIES
A YEAR'S RETURN
A return was presented to the Wellington Hospital Board yesterday showing the consumption oE foodstuffs, etc., at the Hospital for the twelve months euded 31st March. The average daily number of patients was 585, average number o£ staff 315; total 900. The consumption of meat, fish, and dairy produce was as follow:— Meat.—Mutton 51,9231b, beef 104,7621b, rabbits 546G1b, sausages 50051b, pork 10961b, tripe 83071b, kidneys 821b, veal 10451b, frys 20321b, os tongues 8501b, sheep tongues ! 3491b. Pish.—Round and smoked 51,7941b, flat 1861b, oysters 216 dozen. I Dairy Products.—Butter 44,4381b, cheese 34811b, cream 4312 pints, milk (fresh) 50,370 gallons, (condensed) 720 tins. The return also included the following: —Bread 240,6»41b, flour 171,0401b, oatmeal 21,3461b, potatoes 156,8001b, apples 64,800 lb, sugar 61,8581b, tea 10.3251b. Under the head of breakages and replacements were: —Tumblers 1287, cups and saucers 2748, plates 2290. Attention having been drawn to the fact that the weight of meat consumed worked out at a daily average ofll%oz per person, it was pointed out that the weight included bone. The suggestion was made that the Health Department be asked to have a similar return furnished by other hospitals. The information could then, it was urged, be of value for purposes of comparison. I The secretary stated that it was intended by the Department to have that information obtained.
