men from "Wellington are in Iso. 1 Camp, Golden Downs, Nelson. The camp is situated twelve miles up the valley from Kohatu. Reveille goes at 6.45 a.m., and breakfast is served at 7 a.m. The nien leave camp at 7.30, and walk some two miles up hill and road to their work. Each man is planting 600 trees per day, and it is estimated that there is work for between three and four months. The big earthquake found tho men on a hillside by a deep gully The shako was so severe that many of tho men were thrown off their feet. Stones rattled down the- hillside, and trees creaked and swayed in tho gully, making an alarming situation. Over sixty shakes, some severe, were felt in three days. The men, howeve-r, have been working each day, feeling the ground shake in spasms as they planted. All the men are well, and are being well catered for by the cook and his assistant' The Forestry Department has done everything possible for the" comfort of the men.
