Mr. WV J. Broadf oot (Waitomo) presented, a petition for an amendment of the Gaming Act. Mr. Speaker (the Hon. Sir Charles Statham)'; warned honourable members that they must be succinct in asking, questions. "Questions; he pointed out, were for the purpose of obtaining and -not imparting - information.: There, must be no argument or expression of opinion in the question or the note attached. ....... . .... .... . Mr. D.- J. Sullivan (Avon) gave notice to ask whether a publicity campaign would be instituted to induce people to consume more New Zealand r: : . ■.-:.'■ ■ ■■_.... Miv W. J. Poison (Stratford) gave notice to ask the Minister-of Agriculture whether the Government would renew the bounty of one shilling per shout !for alleviating the wild pig nuisance, and whether .the bounty •■■would-be made available all the year •round instead of from July to September. Mr. Sullivan gave .notice to ask the Minister of Customs whether additional protection will be afforded certain threatened local industries. Mr. W.J. Broadfoot (Waitomo) gave notice that he intends to ask the Government whether by virtue of the proposed heavy increase in the United States tariff against our products, he will move in the direction of having this Dominion represented at the conference of the- units of the Empire which is likely to be held in the near future to consider the question of the rationalisation of Empire industry, trade, and development. Mr. J. Si JFleteher (Grey -Lynn) gave notioe to ask the Minister of Railways whether he will make a statement to the Dominion regarding the Garratt locomotives—first as to whether they are suitable to: New Zealand conditions; second, if suitable, why they have, not -been uaed on the long-distance runs. Mr! J. S. Fletcher (Grey Lynn) gave notice to ask the Minister of Labour whether a Select Committee would be set up to report on the question.of finding employment for youths leaving school. /,...... Mr.E. Eraser (Wellington Central) gave notice to ask the Minister of •Pensions whether he will introduce legislation this session reducing the period of residence ia New.
