PROPOSED ADDITIONS

NELSON, This Day. The Minister of Education (the Hon. [H. Atmore) telegraphed to Mr. Frank | Hamilton, chairman of the Nelson College Board of Governors, intimating | that Cabinet had agreed to his recommendation for a grant for the acquisition of seven acres near the college. The,first act of the new Minister was 'to obtain a grant for the purpose, of erecting two hostels to meet the overcrowding existing in the boarding accommodation in connection with the. rapidly-growing institution. It is proposed to erect two hostels on the terraces that will give a very pleasing noncontinuous line of buildings running from the present main structure by tha Waimea road right through to the hillside. The Minister's further plan. ig to acquire some acres on the western slopa of the Grampians, which is to be planted with trees to make a proper setting ■for the new buildings. The transaction makes a distinctly forward step ia the progress of one of the most notable educational institutions in the Dominion. •■-.-••.■ • ■ ■ ■ ...■••.••..-.
