MONEY FOR FARMERS
KEYNOTE TO SUCCESS
(By Telegraph.) (From Our Spoelal Reporter.) PALMERSTON'N., This Day. That land settlement in New Zealand must fail unless closer attention were given to the question >of financing the farmers was the opinion expressed, by the Minister of Labour (Uon W. A. voiteh) -at the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association's annual smoke-concert at Palmerston North ,last evening. , , ; \ , "A great many farmers throughout Now Zealand have been driven, off their lands by economic pressure, because they were unable to find sufficient money to finance their operations," said'the Minister, "and so while we still aggressively proceed with the work of land settlement, we must Bee to it that farmers' finance is given careful consideration. At the present time we have figures, most satisfactory as far as they go, to prove .that the .value of our exports in proportion to our imports is rapidly increasing, but how much is being diverted to the service of the primary producers? I venture to say not a sufficient proportion to meet the growing needs of the primary prbducers of this country. As long as) farmers' finance is overlooked, land settlement in New Zealand must fail.''
