MEETING OF EXECUTIVE'

COMMITTEE

A meeting of the Executive Commit-; tee of the' Wellington branch, of the Navy League was held yesterday afternoon, tho following members being pre-sent::—-Mr. J. C. ■ Crawford (in . the. chair), Mrs. Findlay, Miss Cable, Messrs. A. Walker, F. H. Irwin, A. H. Hollis, D. Strachan, W. A. Armour, and the secretary (Mr; Darroch).

A letter was received from Earl Jellicoe outlining the naval situation as it exists to-day, and exhorting the; Navy League in New Zealand to continue its efforts on behalf of adequate naval protection. This letter has already been published. ... ; '■

The Under-Seeretary for Internal Affairs wrote advising the league of the arrival of the German cruiser Emden. It was resolved to take no action.

. Admiral E. B. G.-B. Evans, the newlyappointed Coniniandant of .the .AustraUanNavy wjote thariking;the"branch for its'good-wishes, and stating that heis' looking forward to a visit to New Zealand next year. Mrs. Findlay reported that Mrs. Walker had arranged a very successful dance for the cadets from the Devon, in the Marine Institute. A report ■was also submitted by Mrs. Kndlay on the success of the Street Day. In addition to the amounts al-" ready published, Mrs,. Walker held a stall at Eastbourne, on "Saturday, which realised £16 16s 7id. Also- 'small amounts added in for the other stalls^ bring the total receipts- to £162 4s 6d. Special donation's amounted to £81 5s making a grand total of £243 9s 6d, the expenses amounted to £5 195,: consisting of £4 for stall notices, advertising £1 4s, express hire 15s. There are -still : a number of voluntary donations to be received. ' " • ... .-. •;

It was decided to hold the annual meeting about Bth July". - Mr. G. T. Grose and Mr. W. Perry were elected to the executive, and MiGrose was elected a Wellington delegate to the Empire Conference in London on 24th October next.
