„ ' " CHRISTCHURCH- This Day. > Thomas Mercer, aged 54, a land salesman, was sentenced yesterday to fourteen dayff imprisonment for being drunk while m charge of a motor-car. The Magistrate, Mr Lewey, said: "The potentialities or drunken motorists in a city arc-so horrible that I must take a very serious view or such offences."
_ Later, on the Bubmissions o£ counsel, the Magistrate granted a' rehearing. Ho adjourned the case until Thursday, allowing the accused bail.
