WATKAEEMOANA POWEE
The second of the three turbines which will form the complete power installation at the Tuai power-house, the headquarters, -of the Waikaremoana hydro-eleetrie scheme, will be delivering current regularly .within three weeks. The new unit is installed and is "drying out:'' The usual tests are being applied, and in three weeks these will be complete. The new turbine will join the initial installation in the regular; delivery of current, under' contracts with the various power boards throughout the North Island.
There are about 150 men at headquarters at Tuai at present, as compared with 900 when the construction was in full swing. There remains only a. comparatively small amount of work to be done to complete the power-hbuse equipment. -■,•■■
Some of tho men who are attached to the Tuai station are working on the transmission lines and on a survey of a line through the TJrewera, by which Waikaremoana will-be linked with Arapuni. This line passes' through" some very rough country in the : nrst' stages, and construction work >vill be heavier than on the Bay line. The spans will be generally. Jongei- than in the case of the. Tuai-Napier route. One will range up to 70 chains,"which is a good deal beyond the length of the biggest span between the. power-house and Haw;kes Bay. ' :■'-.
