(By Telegraph.) ■ (Special to "The Evening Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day. Speaking at the King's Empire Veterans' luncheon yesterday, the Gov-ernor-General said the title of. King's Empire Veteran was tho proudest a man could bear, and there were before him many worthy bearers of tho title. "I soo on the breast of one veteran, the New Zealand Cross and th© medals of the Indian Mutiny and the Crimean War," said His Excellency. "I see besides him two wearers of the Victoria Cross, three noble decorations in line and three men of whom tho Empire may well be proud. "It is well to remember," continued Sir Charles, "that in honouring veterans we are honouring the men who built up the Empire and made New Zealand what it is to-day. Other wars have come and gone, but wo must not forget those who in troublous and in peaceful times helped to build up the Empire and to carry on its finest traditions."
