RUGBY, 3rd June The following additional Birthday Honours are announced:— Baron Halishain, Lord Chancellor and Field-Marshal Baron Piunier to be' Viscounts. Baronies are conferred on Colonel Sir Edward Brotherton, formerly mem- | ber of Parliament for Wakefield; Sir | Bobert Sanders, formerly Minister of Agriculture; and Sir William Tyrrell | British Ambassador at Paris. ' The following are to be Privy Councillors: Baron Dawson of Perm Phy-sicion-in-Ordinary to the King; Major Hills, M.P., Sir Ellis Hume-Williams K.C., and Colonel Spender Clay, M.P. Eleven Baronetcies are conferred Those honoured include Sir Arthur Balfour, Chairman of the Committee on Industry and Trade; Sir Edward Farquhar Buzzard, Physician-Extraordinary to the King; and Colonel Sir Hugh Bigby, Sergeant-Surgeon to the King. Those on whom Knighthoods are con ferred include Mr. Gordon Craig, Chairman of New Era National Pictures, Ltd. and Portable Talking Pictures, Limited; Mr. Ben Greet, actor and producer of Shakespearian plays; Mr. Peter Chalmers Mitchell, Secretary of the Zoological Society; Mr. James W. HeadlamMorley, lately Historical Adviser to the Foreign Office; Mr. Eoland Nugent, Director of the Federation of British Industries; Mr. Bobert Welsford, President of the Law Society; Mr. Robert Stanton Woods, physician, for services during the King's illness. Several Knighthoods are conferred for public and political services, and include Mr. James M'Donald, President of the Rhodesia Chamber of Mines- and Mr. William Herbert Phillipps, chairman of the Savings Bank, South Australia. The India list includes fourteen Knighthoods. For services in the Colonies and Protectorates the following are to be Knighted:—Colonel Cornwallis, Adviser to the Ministry of the Interior, Irak; Mr. Robert Furness, Chief Justice of Barbados; Mr. Nine Mats Kole, unofficial member of the Legislative Council of the Gold Coast Colony Mr. Michael M'Donnell, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Palestine; Mr. Michael Whitley, Attorney-General, Straits Settlements. In the Order of the Bath a number of promotions and appointments of Naval and Military officers are recorded. Lord Lee of Fareham, who gave Chequers to the nation for the use of Prime Ministers as a countiy seat, is to be promoted to a Knight Grand Cross of this Order. New Knights-Com-manders of the/Order are Sir Ronaia Lindsay, Permament Under-Seeretary of State for Foreign AHairs; Mr. Robert Vansittart, Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister; and Sir Stanley Hewett, Surgeon to the I King. I The Order of Merit is conferred on Dr. Robert Bridges, Poet Laureate, in recognition of his eminent position in the world of literature, and on Mr. John Galsworthy for his services to literature and drama. Mr. Alscount Moschen, Governor of Madras, becomes a Knight Grand Commander of the Star of India. Appointments to the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George include Sir John Cadman, chairman of the AngloPersian Oil Company; Sir Maurice Hankey, Secretary to Cabinet and Clerk of the Privy Council; and Sir George Grahame, British Ambassador at Madrid.
