Damage estimated at £800 was dono as tho result of a fire which broke out in the laundry building at the Waipiata Sanatorium, The outreak apparently began in tho drying-room and within a 'few minutes tho front portion of tlie building was a mass of flames. The staff was able to save tho rear portion and the boiler. Tho remainder of tho machinery was badly damaged. The building was insured for £1200 and the machinery, which had Tjeen in position only nine months, was covered by &IQOO.
