IN THE FAR SOUTH

SPELL OF MILD WEATHER BYRD PARTY CHEERFUL (By Russell Owen.—Special to "NewYork Times.") United Service. (Keeeived 28th May, 1 p.m.) BAY OF WHALES, 26th May. There has been a full week of dull weather, comparatively mild. The temperature, indeed, last night was 5 degrees above zero, a surprising rise, as thu wind was not unusually strong. But no matter how moody and repellent the frozen world may be outside, it is warm and cheery in the houses. The days go very rapidly, and in less than a month winter Day will be reached, and we can look ahead to the return of the sun.
