HOSPITAL TENDERS
AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT
Tlio following statement was made to "The Post" to-day on behalf of the AVellington.Hospital Board,in regard to tenders received by the board for the supply of groceries to the' Social'Welfare'Department:--- ./_ '"' " '. "Mr. Petherick reported to the last meeting of the' board ~, in 'j connection with the Social ~Wo\lire tenders. He stated tliat the sub-c.ommitteß, had' consulted with the...board''s ( ,"solicitors,, and that :a' ietter/had/bee'iy^r.ecQiyed from Messrs. .Bell,'. Gully,'. Mackenzie, and O'Leary, who, represented. Messrs..; Eusse'il' and Co;-' The .position had been fully considered, arid he moved that a letter :be .s'eh't '.to Messrs. Eussell and Co., and tlieir legal, representatives, pointing put that the price submitted by the successful tenderer w.as accepted in all good faith. The: tenders'were, submitted to'tho board by the Social Wcl-' fare Committee, who subsequently made a recpmmendatioh to the, board, which was.adopted. It is regrettable that.the comniittoe: overlooked certain .figures, and that' its .-recommendation,. to' • tlie board was based upon. a. ca,lculation wrongly made. The board/regrets that this error was made, but aB theebntract has now been accepted, the position cannot be altered.-An error had been, found in. the tender submitted by Messrs.
