CLOUDING OVER FOR RAIN

During the last twenty-four, hours most parts of the Dominion have enjoyed fair and. mild weather conditions, although on- the West Coast and in the Fovcaux Strait regiton there have been, a few isolated showers. Around Gisborne and on the east coast, however, i some: heavy rain fell last night owing to the presence in that locality of ■ a small. cyclone. Considerable mist and fog has been experienced, winds being mainly northerly over the North Island and variable elsewhere. The cyclone mentioned' above has moved away eastward, but unforturi-" ately for the prospects of fine weather a fresh cyclone, apparently of considerable intensity, is shown on to-day's weather charts, tho unwelcome -visitor being at present located to the southwest of Norfolk Island. Its influence is already being felt in parts of the Dominion. Moderate to strong south to east winds are forecasted for the country south of "West-port and Alcaroa, and freshening- northerlies elsewhere, these latter reaching gale force at times norths of Auckland Unsettled and cloudy weather, wit); fainl developing, may be expected norfb of Auckland and over Taranaki. these conditions gradually oxtonding southward and eastward and being accompanied by mist or fog. Mild temperatures are still likely to rule in most districts, but from Canterbury southward colder conditions are probable. •
