ANZAC DAY SERVICE

NELSON, 26th April. Anzac Day memorial services were held throughout Nelson district yesterday. In the city Territorials^ returned soldiers, Cadets, Girl Guides, and Sea Scouts paraded at the, Church Steps, where the Bishop ot Nelson delivered. an address.
The Nelson Horticultural Society's Autumn Show opened to-day. . The quality of the competitive blooms is very good considering that the weather has been bad for the past two or three weeks. The decorative section was outstanding. The port of Mapua had exported 102,245 cases of apples up to 24th April: . , George Wells, aged .34,- was. sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour ,by Justices to-day on a charge.of being idle and. disorderly and without visible lawful means of support. ' : The following nominations have been received for the. Takaka County ' elec;tions:—County Council (three for each riding): Anatoki Riding—Baigent, 1 A. H.; Barnett, A. H.; Sparrow, R. W. (present members); Grant, G. D.; Newport,-Wil-liam J,; Vosper,"E. J. Waitapu Riding— Harwood, G. A.; Page, James William; Symes, T.H. D, (present members)'; Reilly, Jack B. . :, :. Golden Bay Electric Power Board: Messrs. F. W. -Falconer, Hugh Manson. Frank Page, Alex. Taylor, ,J. E. Windle. Only the required number of candidates have been nominated. < AH except. lMr. Hugh Manson are present members of the board. Mr. Manson takes the place: of Mr. C. Horton, who lias not sought reelection. Hospital Board: Mr. J. G. Page, the present member representing Takaka and Collingwood. districts. on ;the.. Nelson Hospital Board, is re-elected unopposed: A strong right to left wind interfered with shooting at . the • Waimea Defence Rifle Club'a last competition—two- seven- : shot matches over 300 yards. Rifleman lamton secured the. leg in for the firstclass and Rifleman .A. Thomas for the second class. ' ■ . Miss Donald, late 1 matron of the Kawitin Maternity Hospital, has been appointed matron of the Te Aroha Hospital, Bay of Plenty. . . ■
