EAST GIRLS' COLLEGE

Mr. T. M'Lareu presided over a wcllattended meeting of the Wellington East Girls' College Parents' Association, held recently. ■ ■ l<\inal arrangements were made for the commencement of an extensive programme of ground improvements, chief of which was the formation of two tennis courts, surfacing an additional area for recreation purposes, and the formation of concrete steps from the proposed court to the college entrance. Tenders would be called, and the work commenced in the next few weeks. The chairman reported that the City Council had agreed to erect a shelter shed for the benefit of scholars who travelled by tram. This and a special tram from Island Bay run for college girls only, were concessions that had long been wanted, and would be greatly appreciated. Tii© special tram for college pupils .could well be extended. A tram leaving Seatoun for college pupils only would benefit business people equally as much as the scholars, for it would leave the regular service free for business men and women. It was decided to ask the Education Department to regrade the drive in front of the college in order to prevent the storm water from washing away the banks. It was mentioned that, although, only a few years old, the college was already full, pupils living in the 'Wellington East area having to be refused admittance. The .question of providing further accommodation would soon have to be faced hy the authorities.
