The wonderful snowlieltls at! the head of the Franz, Josef Gjacier aretho second largest in Now; Zealand, and afford some of tho finest ski-ing grounds in tho world. The alpinist seen hero is asconding the Goikie'snowfield past the Mackay Rocks towards'the Linden Ridge flanking the Chamberlin snowflold that leads up'to Graham's Saddle. The mountain range in the left background is the magnificent Mount Etie de Beaumont (I0,200ft),! its precipitous sides being clothed in the most beautiful folds of snow and ice—a superb example of "the alabaster robes" of whiph Wordsworth speaks in his poem. It is one of the finest sights in the whole of this remarkable region. A commodious and well-equipped new hut is being erected close to the old Aimer bivouac this winter in preparation for the . next ski-Ing season. :, <. -
