"REGULATION STRIKE"

AiS T OFFICIAL DENIAL

(By Telegraph.—firess Association.)

CIIBISTCHUECH) 26th April,

An official denial o£ rumours ! that' the holding of what is known vas a "regulation" strike, is being considered by the railway guards in Canterbury was' given by the secretary o£ the ChrJ3tchurch Railway Guards' Club in a statement made on behalf of the, members yesterday.

s The holding of what is known-as a "regulation 'strike" is' a subject of ■ frequent, discussion among railway guards in .Canterbury '■'(states'- the "Lyttelton Times"). The'guards are feeling very "sore" over the-decision of the Board of Inqniry w,hich investigated ■ the collision at Kirwee on .23rd'-March. The board found, it is stated, that the guard of the goods train" had been negligent iii not obeying .the regulations. Several members of the guards' organisation are considering obeying the regulations implicity and taking the full time allowed for carrying them out, this being- what is usually Itermed a "regulation strike." The effect of this would be to make the trains late and to allow overtime to accrue. In effect, it is another method o£ "going slow." On the -other hand, several. of the guards realise that the railways are not the sole form of transport, ,'nndthat if their action makes train travelling un-' popular, it may react on them by the cutting out of trains and consequent reduction in staffs. ■ ' ■"
