Mr. T B. M'Neil, S.M., presided at a sitting of the Upper Hutt Magistrate's Court yesterday.. ■.-...■■ John M'Williams wag fined 10s for being found on licensed premises after hours. Elizabeth Rearc?on, the licensee, "iiiid, James' Mooiiey the" barman of the Quiiin's lost Hotel,:were each charged with'selliri" 1 liquor after hours. Mr. J. Scott entered pleas of guilty for both, and they were convicted and fined £2 each.' The evidence showed that Constable Joss visited the hotel at 10.15 p.m. on 2Gth January last, and fouDd four men in the bar. The licensee admitted having allowed the four men to be served,' as they had asked for : accommodation and she thought that they, were going to be boarders. ■•/. However, the .! house/was fullj-aiid two .of the .men had to go. . . •..• : •.-■:-... :•• Herman Kingsland Campbell was' charged with dangerous driving on the Hutt road. The evidpnee showed that the defendant, on a wet night,: had run into a motor-cycle and side-car, with the result that the cyclist's leg was broken. It was submitted for the defence that the collision was an accident and not duo to the defendant's negligence, for the lights of the cycle might have been momentarily obscured or dimmed. Campbell was convicted and fined £5. Alexander Claud M'Kenzie was fined £1 for dangerous driving. Alfred Henry Southee applied for a variation of a maintenance order. T.he arrears were cancelled and the maintenance of his wife was reduced from £1 to 10s a week. ;;
