A Press Association message from Christchureh states, that owing to the Tasmanian Parliament having"- been summoned to "deal with the flood situation, Sir Walter Lee (Minister of Works .and, Lands) has decided to curtail his South Island visit. He will leave Auckland on 19th April.

■ A'pleasant gathering took place atthe Waterworks Yard, Chaffers street, 'On Thursday afternoon, the occasion being the retirement of Mr. E. Ogden after twenty-six years' service. Mr; Tinney referred, to the many years of conscientious service rendered by Mr. Ogden, and. the high . esteem in which he was held by the Corporation and his fellow-employees alike, and hoped he would livo many years to enjoy his wellearned rest. Ho presented Mr. Ogden, on behalf of his fellow-workmen, with a handsome smoker/s outfit and a leather travelling case. 'Mr.. W. Armstrong, for many years associated with Mr. Ogden; also" spoke. Mr. Ogden, in reply;said it had always been his aim to act fairly both to the ;men under him and the Corporation. Although, re-: tiring from the service he still hoped to keep in contact with them.
