This news spread like wildfire just before 1 o'clock , to-day, but people, mindful of the many false rumours current for the past week, were for the time incredulous. When the appearance of newspaper notices confirmed, the glad tidings a great sigh of content and thankfulness arose that the intrepid adventurers had survived their twelve days' isolation in the wilds of country, the ■' desolate and rugged character of which had made a continuance of hope seem almost illogical.' ' The finding, of the menj.who have bocome national heroes,, ..was the >■ sole topic of conversation, and , when the various editions of ■ the newspapers appeared they were ■ eagerly snapped up for such additional details as they possessed.' '.■■." REMARKABLE SCENES. Thero were remarkable scenes witnessed at many places to-day when the news of the finding of the Southern Cross gol abroad. The usual solemnity of the Stock Exchange, where' bidders were immersed in financial calculations, was suddenly broken by an outburst of choering and .business was forgotten. : ■•."'_■ At the Nationalist Party Congress, when the Prime Minister, Mr. Bavin,
announced-the news, prolonged eheera were given for Captain Holden, pilot of the Canberra. ■ '■ .
There were similar scenes at sports gatherings. . One of the" most pleased men in Sydney is Mr. F. B. Eager, partowner of the Canberra, who was one of the prime movers in arranging for Captain Holden's search. ' ;
The seaplane carrier.Albatross cleared Sydney Heads at 112.34' p.m. ,and is going i'ull speed westward. Although her company know that the'aviators have been found, the ship cannot turn back-till she receives specific orders from the' Navy Board.. She carries sis seaplanes a|id 20,000 gallons of petrol.
