PALMERSTON RAILWAY DEVIATION
(TO tho Editor.)
: Sir,—As an old of Palmerston • North, I would like to emphasise a point of view that very little' lias been wade of,' * and that is, the danger to the local.public and to visitors on-account .of the .' railway going-right through the centre of' the town." I have lived in, JPalmerston North for some thirty years, and, during that time, there has been a. roll of dead and- injured which could 'have.been ob- : viated had the railway line besn sunk or deviated. .-; When I -had a: young, family. . and they were going to school,- the fact "': that .the, children, had to,cross the'rail- : ( way line was a. great source of anxiety to' my. wife; and myself,, and they had always to. be .piloted. / Now,, .what. happened to' us; then, is happening to others to-da.r. I ■'■'. am. not -'.qualified'to Judge on' any other point of.'■the railway deviation, but, in the past, the loss of life" and damage to .vehicles has'been very great, and it will be a very retrograde.step if the line is not,'taken- from' 'its-present position.— ■' I 'am,' etc., ' : , ■--■ , ,:' P.
