MERCURY BAY
.Extensivo formation by the Public "Works Depawment has provided |i new road from Waihi to Whangamala and northwards, to Hikuwai. Several deviations are . under construction, and tlieso will shorten the distanco when available. Formation is to bo continued, until Tairua is reached although cars can now reach Tairua over what is more or less a bush track. Eventually the road will go still further north to connect .with Mercury Bay and a round trip from Paeroa to Waihi, through Mercury Bay, and back to Thames will be provided. Between Waihi and Whangamata some very fine coast views aro obtained; and' Mayor Island, Clark Island, and the Alderman Group are clearly visible. There aro also beautiful stretches of bush, and although the routo is essentially for fine weather tho scenery will soon earn popularity for the trip.
Metal parts beneath the bonnet and fonder a*e. prevented from rusting by i painting.with a black enamel. Clean the parts well with a wire brush, and apply I the enamel 'with'a stiff varnish bru^h. Parts that may bc\enaraelled to advantage include steel fan blades, pulley | arms, brackets,, and"elbows, nuts that i arc not often disturbed, exposed pieces I of shafting, operating rods, etc. Even a cylinder casting may be so treated, as a good' enainal w,ill stand heat without blistering.
