SUBURBAN LEAGUES

The annual cricket match between teams representing the city and suburban leagues of Christchurch and Wellington opened on Saturday at Wakoflcld Park, and is being continued today. Tho visitors won the toss, but were not ablo to take very much advantage of their first use of the wicket. Stokes and Noonan wore the only visiting batsmen to play the bowling with any success, and mainly through tho agency of C.'Gell, tho last wicket fell with only 86 on the board. "Wellington soon proved that they wero as good with the bat as they had been with the ball, and at the end of Saturday's play had four wickets down for 217, Andrews, Kennedy, and Ilolte all playing useful knocks.

The wicket was in excellent order for tho continuation of: the game to-day. Tho not out men, Whaler and Goll, added S more to the total, when Whaler

went lbw to Gray. Tho pair had put on 108 for tho fifth wicket. Gell was bowled shortly afterwards, but Thorn mado a good stand for 40, which included five 4's and one 6. At the luncheon adjournment Wellington wcro all out for 315. Details:—
