ARCHITECTS' STATEMENT
(Spoclal to "The Evening Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day
ponmicnting upon a telegram regarding the use of Italian marble in the specifications for the plinth of the Wellington War Memorial, tho architects, Messrs. Grierson, Aingcr, and Draflin say that this message is full of inaccuracies. The facts are that the contract for the memorial has now been signed, the lowest tender, that of' the Hansford and Mills .Construction Co., having been accepted. The structure is to be in the form of a reinforced concrete pylon faced with white marble, and standing upon a base of grey Coromandcl granite. A bronze equestrian statue of a symbolical character sur-
mounts this marblo pylon. Tho most suitable marblo for ■ tho purpose, "white Sicilian," has boon selected' to ensure a permanently white monument which will best withstand the ravages of tho weather.
