ARTCRAFT THEATRE.
"Metropolis;" a line German Dim, Is now being shown at the Artcraft Theatre. It is a remarkable picture of what a leading city may !re 100 years hence. Tho leading character hi it is John Mastennau, a soulless individual, v,ho dominates the city. Great buildings towering Into the clouds have been built for the rich, while the poor are compelled to liv.; underground. The highest building in tho group Is occupied by Mastcrman, and from It, he operates all Ihe workings of the huge city. Onco a day (lie children of the poor are permitted to travel to tho top of the highest building to get fresh air. They are under the care of Mary, a beautiful girl, who one day on opening a door leading into a beautiful garden, encounters Masterman'a con. Tho latter becomes fascinated with tho girl, and in tho hope of meeting her again, he visits the poor, and hears of their siid pfight. Mary is later captured, the poor revolt, and destroy all the machinery that operates the city. These scenes are sensational and gigantic, and finally an understanding Is come to between Capital and Labour. '
