UNIVERSITY CLUB
The annual general meeting ol' the Victoria University College Football Club was held at the college on Wednesday evening, Mr. P. Martin-Smith, the club captain, presiding. There was a large attendance.
The tinnual report slated that the season under review was perhaps the most successful in the history of'the club, us last season was the first occasion on which the .senior team had annexed the championship and the .National Mutual Challenge Cup. The manner in which the senior team trained resolutely to the end of the season set an example which the whole club might, well follow. The .Management Committee extended to them and to their coach, Air. Martin-Smith, congratulations upon their excellent win. The senior \i team (Unshed fourth in its Hi-ado and contributed at least eight players to the senior team, which won the National Mutual Cup. The junior, third; and fourth teams showed an improved keeness, and although not linishinsj high in their grades derived sullicient success to make the season an enjoyable one. lie thanks of Ihe club are due to those who ■we their time iv assisting in the training and coaching of the teams, and in tins connection special mention must be made of the untiling energy of im\ lUartmiSiMtli to whose enthusiasm much ot the success must be attributed. Iho committee also expressed its appreciation ot the work done by Mr. Miller in connection with the junior teams. Ihe club roKvetted that he had been transferred to Napier, and wished him every success in his new sphere. Thanks was also tendered to Mr. Turner and Mr. White.nan for the attention they gave to the junior and senior B teams respectively. Only one iuter-University game was played, namely against Canterbury, at ChristchuicU, the game being lost, lu-U afteu an even contest. The team was voyallv entertained by the Christchurch host*' \ "vi»« with Auckland mitoiinnately could not be arranged. A junior team again visited Waipawa and played a match against Te Ante, which was lost •21-10, after a very open game. It is hoped thai, a Te Ante team will be able to visit Wellington this year. A learn from the Australian universities is visiting Acw Zealand in May next. The following players gamed representative honours last season: AM Llacks, Mackenzie and Macka.N ; Wellington representatives. J.iiwu. Mackay, Kainsoti, M'Ken/.ie. Leys, O'Uegan, and Blacker; senior .1$ representatives. D. Grillen; junior representatives, C. M. Turner. The committee thanked members tor the co-operation accorded them, and also expressed appreciation for the work done by thoso delegates to the various governing bodies with which the club is associated. Thanks were extended to the patron, president, and vice-presidents for financial and other support. The annual report and balance-sheet Were adopted.
