Messrs. J. B. Kobertson (First Division, North Island), T. A. Harwood (First Division, South Island), and M. Connelly, E. J. Dash, and A. Bradley (Second Division) have been elected members of tlio Government Bailways Superannuation Board. Lieut.-Colonel J. Armstrong, of tho Wellington East Coast Mounted Rifles, has been awarded tho Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration. The appointment of Sir Henry Lindo Ferguson as a member of tho Board of Health and of tho Medical Council is published in last night's "Gazette." Tho appointment has boon provisionally recognised by the Governor-Gene-ral of Mr. I. Kisht as Acting-Consul for Japan, at Sydney, with jurisdiction over New Zealand. The Wellington Accountant Students' Society, at its annual meeting last evening, extended its congratulations to Mr. .Robert Kennedy upon his elevation to tho Supreme Court Bench. Mr. Justice Kennedy was a former lecturer to the society. Mr. A. It. Entricau, engineer to the Forestry Department, whoso health has been the source of grave anxiety, is showing marked signs of improvement. A Press Association message from Blenheim snys that a function probably unique in the history of New Zealand fire brigades occurred at last evening's meeting of the Blenheim Borough Council, when Councillor. W. M. Carr ,\vas made the recipient of a handsome gold watch from the Mayor and fellowcouncillors on the occasion of his completion of 50 years' continuous servicq in tho Blenheim Volunteer Fire Brigade. Mr. Carr is still an active member of tho brigade, attending all fires. Acknowledging the congratulations showered upon him, Mr. Carr mentioned that he had failed to respond to only two alarms during his half-century in the brigade. Once he was absent from Blenheim, and oh the second occasion he slept through the bell's clangour. Mr. Carr joined the brigado on 3rd March, 1879. ' ■■■ . -
