MINOR CITY WORKS
Consideration is to be given by the City Council in connection with the framing of next year's estimates* to the following proposals:—lmprovements to quarry site, Oriental Bay; erection of swimming baths at Ngaio (estimated cost £2000); contribution towards cost of erecting memorial bam! rotunda, Island .Bay (£200); formation tennis courts, Duncan terrace; improvement to drainage, roads, and footpaths, Vogeltown and Mornington districts; improvements to drainage, roads, and footpaths, Haughton Valley district; erection of new street liameplatcs; surface sealing, M'Donaid crescent, Pirie street, Matai road, and portion of the Terrace between Abel Smith street and Ghuznee street; slormwater drainage at Seatoun in the vicinity of Hector and Gore streets. Authority has been granted for the laying of a stormwater drain at Bruce avenue and Apuka street, Brooklyn, at an estimated cost of £227, provided the property owners contribute £66 19s 6d towards the cost of the work. The access ways at the Evelyn estate, Rarori, are to be taken over by the City Council provided all the land contained in the ways is transferred to the counciil free of cost, and the property owners contribute £25 for improvements. The council is to be responsible for the erection of the street lamps required, estimated to cost £32 10s. The application of the Wellington Rugby Union for the right to charge admission to the Prince of Wales Park on Saturday afternoons during the coining football sea.son and of the Wellington Caledonian Society for a remission of charges levied by the council in connection with a sports meeting held at the Basin Reserve on 12th January have been declined by the City Council.
