HAMILTON, This Day.

The Minister of Lands (the Hon. 6. W. Forbes), speaking at Putaruru yesterday, said that while he did not wish, to discourage afforestation, it should he confined to lands unsuitable, for farming. Ho recognised that a freeholder had liberty to deal with land,' but if tree-planting was carried on ttt such an extent that good farming land was being lost, the State might bo forced to seek a remedy by taxation.
