PIANOFORTE RECITAL

A programme .• of exceptional interest was presented by Miss Isa; Anderson (jtiupil of Miss Valeric Corliss) at her pianoforto recital at Ngaio last evening. Composltict ns' by Bach, Brahms, Schumann; Rbsentiloom, York Bowen, Leo Livens, Poldinl, do- SevcraC, and Chopin constituted a well-balanced iirogrammo, to which Miss. Anderson did full Justice. This young pianist possesses a remarl.able range of tone.and gives at all times a, mlisical performance. Her Bach ".numbers werjs delightful in singing tone and inflection. Tq Brahms, Miss Anderson brings colour and vitality, and a most satisfying command over tonal range. The group of moderns—which inclu<ied"Caprlccio" (York Bowen), VPetcr Piper,"., and "Sing a' Song of Sixpence"' (Livens), "Concert Study" (Poldinl), "Minstrels" (Debur.sy), and "An Old Musical Box (de Severac)—was played with delightful ! intimacy and ;' spontaneity of mood. The Clfoilin group .was i.'interproted with flno feeling, and the applausifi which, grcetod tho conclusion of the Ballade In' G Minor, was a warm tribute. As a.final qncore. Miss Anderson played a Chopin. Mazurka in. F v Minor. Miss Anderson was assisted in her recital by Sir. T.. C. Wood, who Kayo nil icli pleasure by his artistic singing. Two cha.ratling bracketed numbers—(a) "II Lacerato Sf-pJrlto".' (Verdi), (b) "O, Primavcra'^ (Tirunde/.ll!); and (a) "I Heard You Singing" (Coates>, ;(b) "Bluo Are Her Eyes" (Watts) —gavo the audience an opportunity of hearing Mr. Ivoo'd at his best. He has a delightful baritone, foice, which he uses with sympathy and insdgfcit. As iencores Mr. Wood sang "Tommy ta,d" (Miirgeston) and "Tally Ho"-(Leonl).
