Little fault could bo found with tho weather when the final 100 took their positions on. the mounds on tho Collins and Sommerville. ranges at 8.30 o'clock sharp this morning in the-King's Medal match, tho, final .and most important match of tho Army Rifle Association's meeting. The winner, S.S.M.- J. H. Kearney, of Napier, put'up a very fine score of 155 out of a. possible of 200. Commissioned-Gunner A. 11. Prycc, of H.M.S. Diomede, was second with 153.

The match consisted of four practices—6oo yards slow (600 yards to 100

yards timo with movements), 300 yards rapid, 300 yards snap-shooting in the open, each practice having a maximum number of points 0f.50. S.S.M. Kearney's card read as follows:— 40-10-33-42—155. Lecture Hall where the trophies were presented to the winners by the Primo Minister (the' Right Hon. Sir .loseph AVard). There were also present MajorGeneral, R. Young, General Orlieer Commanding the New Zealand Military Forces, and Brigadier W. L. If. Sin-clair-Bui'gcss, Chief of the General Staff.

General Young warmly congratulated the winners and referred to tho excellent shooting of the Hawkcs Bay Kegiment, whicb r he said, 'was very gratifying. Ho asked' the men to remember that when they wore' reservists they

woro still , part of .tho New , Zealand Army, and he said he would like them to join up with rifle clubs and carry on with their shooting in order that the time spent previously should not, be wasted. He said he was pleased with tho excellent behaviour in camp and with the work of his staff. 1 He paid a special tribute to tho work of Hon. Lieut. A. J. King. (N.Z.P.S.), who, he said, was attending this meeting for tho last time. He said that ho had had tho pleasure, tho other day, of complimenting Lieut. King upon his excellent range discipline.

Sir Joseph Ward expressed his pleasure at being present and said ho realised the value of the training that the men underwent. Their work must bo beneficial. Tho Prime' Minister pointed out the value of training as a measure of preparation iv event of emergency. To "be prepared in every way for trouble, he said, was a guarantee, on tho whole, tWat trouble could be kept further away. He congratulated General Young and his officers on tho success of the meeting and the meu upon their performances.

The winners of the King's Medal, Army Championship, and Cadet Championship were chaired in tho time-hon-oured custom, and given a rousing rocoption by their fellow competitors.
