UNSATISFACTORY
MATRICULATION MARKING
(Ey Telegraph.—Press Association.)
NAPIER, 12th March
Mr.- W. T. Foster, headmaster of tho Napier Boys' High School, reported to the board to-night that since the official list of matriculation passes was published towards the end of January two more pupils had been notified of success—one as a result of challenging the marks and tho other through the publication of the. supplementary list.
"This latter* list," said Mr. Foster, "is simply a confession by the Uuiver-, sity that the examiners' marking is not satisfactory, and' must therefore be viewed with apprehension by teachers and the public generally. While a remedy is not easy to find, there is no ■doubt considerable ground exists for dissatisfaction. I do feel that some pupils are definitely handicapped in their life's work by the faulty running of a system that is breaking down under its own weight.' ' ;
