PETONE CLUB
The annual report of the Petone Hockey Club, to be presented at tho annual meetin^ to-night, "states that the club has shown wonderful improvement during the past season, the progress being due to all members doing their best for then' club The number of teams was increased from two to three, thus from senior J3 and junior to senior A, senior is, and junior. Neither the senior A nor V team finished up very high in the respective championships, but with a little more attention to training should very easily improve on their last performance. J.he junior team, which comprises practically all new players, did exceptionally well, and if able to maintain the same team this season they will be near the top of the junior championship. Representative .honours were gained by C. Smallwood, who played for Wellington in the shield team when they defeated Auckland, and also against Wairarapa and Canterbury. The finance of the club is all that could be expected, as there are practically no outstanding subscriptions for the 1928 season.
The club wishes to thank President Hartley, Vice-P»esidents J. Green, D. M'Kenzie, C. R. Nottingham, who gave donations to help swell the club's funds, and Mrs. F. Lindop, who has always lent a room for committee meetings.
The club members appreciate the work done by Mr. Smith, caretaker, of the Recreation Ground. Thanks are also tendered to the St. John Ambulance Brigade for assistance to disabled players. Dances, which proved a success, were held during the season. ■
